SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the biggest marketing focus for businesses who rely on their online presence to generate sales, which let’s face it, includes almost every successful business in the world these days. Therefore, it’s vital that businesses keep on top of the latest SEO trends to ensure they’re staying ahead of the competition when it comes to how they rank on search engines.

Staying on top of SEO optimisation is an ongoing task. There are hundreds of businesses competing for the same keywords as yours and being in top search results is a pretty sweet place to be. The key to staying on top of your SEO is to continually monitor your rankings and be aware of the SEO trends that really work.

Here are the latest SEO trends that you need to know for 2019.

Amazon Search

Amazon Search is still in the early stages and not widely discussed just yet, but it’s set to make waves and even rival the likes of Google! Our first thought was, ‘surely no one can compete with Google at this point?’, but Amazon is vastly becoming a huge competitor. Many SEO specialists are predicting a huge growth in Amazon Search in the upcoming year. Of course, a huge added benefit is that Amazon isn’t just an online store, it will also deliver product reviews and alternative suggestions.

Based on a study by Kenshoo, 72% of shoppers actually use Amazon directly to find products, and 56% of these consumers will use Amazon before looking on any other sites! These consumers don’t really need another search engine when they can go straight to Amazon.

Perhaps more notable is that when it comes to actually making purchases, people who were surveyed favoured Amazon because if its convenience, prices and ease of shipping – according to the latest data from BigCommerce’s Global Omni-Channel Consumer Shopping Research Report.

Blockchain technology will impact SEO

Ok, what? Blockchain is for Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency, not SEO!

Well in general, yes, however, Blockchains influence could actually start to have an impact on SEO success. So, how exactly can Blockchain influence SEO trends? As we know, Blockchain aims to create secure and trustworthy transactions, this means it can be used to secure transactions between advertisers and website owners happening on search engines too, making Google the middleman between both parties.

Blockchains power would lie in being able to verify that an ad was viewed by an actual person and not a bot, ensuring that the website owner is only paying for genuine clicks. Even more so, all of this will help reduce online ads fraud.

This, of course, will not only impact Google’s ad revenue, but it is also likely to impact SEO in general. Microsoft – and other big companies – are already collaborating with blockchain-based identity systems Blockstack Labs and ConsenSys to help improve apps and services.

David Lockie, the founder of Pragmatic, says “Using an embedded schema mark-up, websites could record the identities of their visitors, or log the number of token rewards that a blog post has secured. It could even calculate which visitors have contributed value to certain posts and the actions they took,” says David Lockie, the founder of Pragmatic. “All of this would input into ranking factors and make the web a more robust and productive social graph, almost infinite in its scope.”

Voice Search SEO steps up its game

This year voice search SEO will become increasingly important. Currently 20% of queries on Android devices and Google’s mobile app are made via voice search. We’d encourage businesses to employ voice search as part of their SEO strategy if they want to set themselves up for success.

If you’re already using SEO best practices, your site is probably in good shape for voice search, but there are some key things to keep in mind:

  • Voice search uses longer-tail keywords and more conversational words than typed searches. For example, people may do a voice search for: “What is the closest garage to me in Douglas?” as opposed to “garage in Douglas.”
  • Voice searches are also more likely to be a question phrase.
  • It’s important to learn how your audience speaks about your products and services. You can use a tool called ‘Answer The Public’ to research how people are asking questions with voice search based on your keyword.
